FLIGHT 93 / QUECREEK MINE
On Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001, the U.S. came under attack when four commercial airliners were hijacked and used to strike targets on the ground. Nearly 3,000 people tragically lost their lives. The Flight 93 National Memorial is located at the site of the crash of United Airlines Flight 93, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, about 2 miles north of Shanksville, and 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. Because of the actions of the 40 passengers and crew aboard the plane Flight 93, the attack on the U.S. Capitol was thwarted.
The story of the rescue of 9 miners in 2002 is told at this attraction at the site of the event also in Somerset County.
